Collecting Pie Recipes for a Fabulous Fall Season

I've been talking mostly about pies, so far, and that's because Fall is the Season for Pies.  Apple Pie, Pumpkin Pie, Pecan Pie ... whatever your favorite, we're all brushing off our best pie recipes right now in order to celebrate hearth and harvest this time of year.

We're always looking for a new pie recipe to add to our collection ... maybe one with cranberries, a walnut pie recipe instead of pecans this time, or a wickedly rich and sinful chocolate pie recipe.  Perhaps we're even looking for savory pie recipes, such as a comforting Chicken Pot Pie, Shepherd's Pie or a Vegetable Pie to serve as a side instead of mashed potatoes.  (Remind me to tell you about a fabulous savory pie that would be perfect for Thanksgiving!)

The pumpkin patches are loaded with a plentiful stock of bright pumpkins, and Halloween is right around the corner.  Last time, I showed you how to bake and prepare your own pumpkin for the freshest pumpkin pie you've ever tasted.  Use your own favorite pie recipe, or take a look at ours in From the bakery of Afternoon Tea: Book of Pies, and let me know what you think.  For me, a pumpkin pie made with fresh pumpkin is a definite "wow" moment.

But beyond blogging about food and/or recipes, or even about our days in the bakery, this is really about appreciating and celebrating life, living it to the fullest, and enjoying every minute of it.  Food is part of that journey, because it enhances and celebrates the moment.

Our pups out for a walk earlier this season.
We remember that fantastic meal we had at a particular restaurant.  We remember the dinner of all our favorite dishes our Mom made especially for us.  We remember the special pie our Aunt always brought to the annual family reunion.  Even a solitary meal well-prepared and enjoyed alone is a tribute to that moment in time.  Food is a way we honor and make any day and any event special.

We hope that during this wonderful time of year you are enjoying the fabulous weather, the beauty of the trees changing color, and the abundantly laden farm stands and pumpkin patches.  Take your dog for a long walk through the crunchy foliage and enjoy the cool weather.  Take your kids to the local pumpkin patch to pick out the biggest jack-o-lantern.  Embrace the fruits of the Season and bake a pie or two before it's all gone!

Happy Fall!
