Travel Plans

Travel is probably on most people's list of resolutions for the New Year.  (And if it's not, it should be!)

My family and I have been talking about taking a trip back to the old country for quite a few years now, and we've finally decided to do it!

We want to see where our grandparents and great-grandparents came from and how they lived.  It will give us a deeper, richer understanding of who we are and where we come from.  It's a trip I have been planning in my head for a number of years now.

One of our cousins actually took such a trip last year, and it was absolutely fascinating to hear about her experiences and all she discovered.  She met cousins she never knew she had, found her grandfather's siblings who were thrilled to fill-in some missing information and share stories about a family history she never had before.  Hearing about her trip, I was more convinced than ever that this is a voyage we need to make ourselves.

Part family heritage tour, part sightseeing, we have been compiling and scrubbing an itinerary that allows us to take advantage of as much as possible, includes all of our individual interests, and makes the most of our time abroad.

It's fun and exciting to plan a trip like this that will be so enriching on so many levels, and one that we'll remember for the rest of our lives.

I hope you're taking advantage of the New Year by making some big travel plans of your own.  Planning a trip can be almost as much fun as when you're finally on it.  The resources today are extensive and at your fingertips.  I even created a playlist of videos of the cities we'll be visiting, so we'll have some familiarity with the places we're going.

And don't forget to take advantage of some of the spontaneous opportunities for trips that come up throughout the year, too!  Travel is one of the most rewarding joys in life, and one of the ways that we can continue to learn and grow, to become more cultured, and get to know ourselves better, as well.

I'm looking forward to a year that is full of new and inspiring vistas, fresh horizons and perspectives, and a world full of possibilities.  I hope you are, too!

Bon Voyage!!
